Fâṭir (Surah 35)
Fâṭir (The Originator)
Introduction
This Meccan sûrah demonstrates Allah’s infinite power through the marvels of His creation, in contrast with the powerlessness of the pagan idols. The Prophet (ﷺ) is consoled by the fact that many prophets were denied before him. The believers are promised of a great reward in Paradise (verses 31-35), while the disbelievers are warned of a scathing punishment in Hell (verses 36-39). All these themes are echoed in the next sûrah. In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Allah’s Power 1) Creation and Mercy
1. All praise is for Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth, Who made angels (as His) messengers with wings—two, three, or four. He increases in creation whatever He wills. Surely Allah is Most Capable of everything. 2. Whatever mercy Allah opens up for people, none can withhold it. And whatever He withholds, none but Him can release it. For He is the Almighty, All-Wise.
Surah 35 - Fâṭir (The Originator) - Verses 1-2
One God Only
3. O humanity! Remember Allah’s favours upon you. Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heavens and the earth? There is no god (worthy of worship) except Him. How can you then be deluded (from the truth)?
Surah 35 - Fâṭir (The Originator) - Verses 3-3
Reassuring the Prophet
4. If you are rejected by them, so too were messengers before you. And to Allah (all) matters will be returned (for judgment).
Surah 35 - Fâṭir (The Originator) - Verses 4-4
Warning Against Satan
5. O humanity! Indeed, Allah’s promise is true. So do not let the life of this world deceive you, nor let the Chief Deceiver deceive you about Allah. 6. Surely Satan is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy. He only invites his followers to become inmates of the Blaze.
